Comment on MI075: Real Life Applications of Infinite Banking w/ Chris Naugle by Ed https://www.theinvestorspodcast.com/millennial-investing/mi075-real-life-applications-of-infinite-banking-with-chris-naugle/#comment-62375 Sat, 16 Jan 2021 02:29:15 +0000 https://www.theinvestorspodcast.com/?p=47499#comment-62375 Well, infinite banking can be a useful forced savings technique but it isn’t particularly special. Your head shouldn’t have to hurt so much for you to understand it. Using the example illustrated imagine putting $18000 a year into an investment account and compare the expected growth of year 1 to the cash value of year 1 on the slide. Now add $18000 to your year 1 investment plus your expected investment return and compare to cash value of year two. Then repeat for subsequent years etc. Compare your hypothetical inestment returns with the cash values in the right hand column. A normal investment will have capital gains which cash value in a lif e insurance policy does not. There is no magic to buying the car. Take a policy loan and pay it back or take an auto loan and pay it pack. You have to have the money to pay back the loan either way. This money has to be separate from your 18000 a year investment. Whole life policies do compound and never lose value but the compounding rate is low. You have to consider taxes for a normal investment and the possibility of variable annual returns. Will you be able to successfully invest your money at a high rate of return. As you put money into an investment account or whole life policy at some point the balance of the account will grow substantially because of dividends and at some point these dividends become more than the cost of your auto loan. Lots more could be said but I will stop here.

Thought you should know. You attributed your quote ““It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” (one of my favorite quotes) to the wrong person. It was Mark Twain, not Walt Whitman. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7588008-it-ain-t-what-you-don-t-know-that-gets-you-into

Before, I had only a vague idea of variable inflation. The inflation bucket examples were bomb. The seven layers of money, the explanation of issuing debt to buy bitcoin, etc etc. Thank you Preston and Michael!
